Department Announcements TOPCAT (Texas Online Preparation for College Admissions Tests)TOPCAT provides free online SAT and ACT test preparation tutorials in English and Spanish to Texas middle and high school students and adults preparing to enroll in college for the first time. TOPCAT provides free access to Sat and ACT test prep tutorials, practice sessions, timed sample tests a vocabulary builder, and test-taking tips. Each subject area and content category covered by SAT and ACT is included and typically contains between 30 and 90 minutes of instructional materials each. Individualized feedback for each incorrect and correct answer is provided, and the practice sessions and vocabulary builder adapt to each student's ability level. Web-based training for teachers, counselors, administrators, or parents who want to sign up as "coaches" is also available at the TOPCAT site. This is a unique feature that allows an adult to sign on with a student to provide encouragement and/or monitor their test prep activities.

Ozarka "Every Drop Counts" Earth Science ScholarshipAwards (2) $10,000 scholarships to Texas students who are planning to pursue degrees in a field of earth/environmental science. The application can be accessed at www.ozarkawater.com. Scholarship documents are located in the "Doing Our Part" section at the bottom of the page. Deadline for submission is April 2, 2010.
Fort Worth Scottish Rite Scholarship$1000 scholarships awarded to students from school districts in the Fort Worth membership area - which includes Coleman County. Applications are awarded on the basis of merit/student achievement. Applications can be obtained from the counselor or by going to www.fortworthscottishrite.org. Scholarship packages must be prepared EXACTLY as asked for and be postmarked or hand delivered no later than March 15.
Early High School Graduation ScholarshipThe Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board awards scholarships to students who complete graduation requirements early under the Recommended or Distinguished plans. A student may receive $500 for graduating a semester early or $2000 for graduating a year early. The money is to be used for tuition at a Texas college.

Angelo State has the Blue & Gold Guarantee - it provides for the cost of tuition & fees if your family income is less than $40,000. Texas A&M has the Aggie Assurance program guaranteeing the cost of tuition if your family income is less than $60,000. Texas State has the Bobcat Promise - awarding the cost of tuition and fees for up to 15 hours a semester if your family income is less than $25,000. Texas Art Scholarship$5000 - awarded to a high school senior who will pursue a major in fine arts at the college level. See your counselor. Deadline: March 31
Juniors! It's time to take the ACT test!Students should be planning to take the ACT test during the spring of their junior year. Many college now have admissions deadlines in the fall for those students planning to attend in the following fall. Taking this exam early gives students the option to take it again to improve scores.

Scholarships for applicants who have either had a serious illness or injury OR had a sibling who had a serious injury or illness that impacted the whole family Great for matching up your personal qualifications with scholarships that available for application Award: $5000 a year for up to five years. Applicants should have a 3.0 GPA, be a Texas resident, completed FAFSA, one page essay, transcript. TRTF is offering (10) $500 scholarships to students who will be attending a Texas college in 2010-11 and are majoring in education. They must also be relatives of members of TRTF. Applications deadline: March 18, 2010. Open to Coleman County graduates. The scholarship is managed by the Community Foundation of Abilene. Check on this scholarship - as well as other opportunities.
